2009 APA Nominations Announced

Posted: July 20, 2009

The first edition of the Absolute Productions Achievements are proving to be a very interesting evening. The APA's are set to honor the very best from our network of series.

Every category, with the exception of one, will be represented by series on the AP Network. It should be noted that Heart & Soul chose not to participate in this year's gala for undisclosed reasons.

Leading the way with 21 nominations is One Day at a Time. ODaaT made a triumphant return to the web earlier this year after a 4 ½ year hiatus. Creator Dallas Walsh said this about the 21 nominations, "It's very flattering. I am humbled to have received these nominations. I am grateful, but also realize that my comeback was at a good time. Heart & Soul chose not to participate; Mysteries of our Lives and Spencer Street were both on hiatus, and Forever & A Day is still a new series … I think my timing played into the 21 nominations. I’ll take it, and hope to get a couple of wins."

Following in a close second, with 16 nominations is Spencer Street. Darren Rowe, the mastermind at the helm, was unable to be reached at press time. Spencer Street's powerhouse episode, Episode 57, in which leading character nominees, Brock Cooper and Isabelle Miller, lose their infant child, may make it the front runner for the top prizes including Outstanding Series, Writing and the leading character categories. Surprisingly, Rowe did not submit the episode for "Outstanding Episode."

13 nominations is what Mysteries of Our Lives has earned.   While the series was on a brief hiatus, it is back in the full swing of things now. Ty Junior had this to say about his series 13 nods: "At the risk of sounding ordinary, I'm just honored to have made it this far in the selection process. The selection of material and characters from the other nominated shows were overwhelmingly good, so it feels good to be stacked up against them. Naturally, I'm crossing my fingers for a win or two, but I do wish the other nominees luck. Awards night should be interesting."

At press time, Junior had no idea, but he will also be receiving a special award on the night of the gala.  Each year, a member of the network that goes above and beyond in the community will receive the AP Excel award. The first Excel award will be given to Junior.

The newest series, Forever & A Day, scored 11 nominations.  Rob Hill, the creator of F&AD, was a little surprised by the nominations. "Wow, this is really amazing... I still can't believe F&AD got 11 nominations. I've worked really hard and I'm glad to see that things are starting to pay off. No matter how everything goes, I want everyone to continue to read! Thanks for the nominations everyone...I greatly appreciate it."

The lone category, which subs the AP network is Favorite Non–AP Series.  Any series outside the AP network is eligible for this award. The top 5 nods are All or Nothing, Footprints, The Blackthornes, Pacifica Heights and Wonderland.

Wonderland's Tom King called his nomination "exciting," while Michael Ross of Footprints said "It's very exciting to find out Footprints has been nominated.  I'm looking forward to the awards!  Thanks to the judges for including me, and to AP Network for putting together this event for the webseries community."

Andy Eckles, the head writer of The Blackthornes released this statement: "Thank you to the judges for nominating The Blackthornes in this award category.  I enjoy what I do, so for me, being acknowledged by my peers is a great achievement in itself.”

Christian Jay Deveraux, writer of Pacifica Heights was just humbled to be nominated. "I'm completely honored to be among the nominees for this year's ceremony.  There are some amazing shows nominated this year, and just to be in the top category is a prize in itself."

The Gala will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 4:00 PM Pacific (7:00 PM Eastern).  For more information, please visit http://awards.oswmagazine.com.
